Free Image DPI Calculator

Tool365 Image DPI Calculator is a browser-based tool for calculating image resolution, DPI, print dimensions and pixel requirements. Upload an image to instantly view its dimensions and calculate its approximate physical print size at different DPI values.

The tool also includes an image resizer so you can create a new image at a specific pixel width and height. Common resolutions such as 72 DPI, 96 DPI, 150 DPI, 200 DPI, 300 DPI and 600 DPI are available as quick presets.

What is DPI?

DPI means dots per inch and is commonly used when discussing print resolution. In digital image workflows, PPI (pixels per inch) is often the more precise term for describing how many image pixels correspond to one inch of printed size.

How does an image DPI calculator work?

Physical print size can be estimated from the pixel dimensions and the selected DPI. For example, dividing an image's pixel width by the selected DPI gives the approximate width in inches. The same calculation can be applied to the image height.

What image size is needed for 300 DPI?

The required pixel dimensions depend on the desired physical print dimensions. For example, a 4 × 6 inch print at 300 DPI requires approximately 1200 × 1800 pixels.

Is 300 DPI good for printing?

300 DPI is a commonly used target for high-quality photographic and detailed printing, although the appropriate resolution can vary depending on the printer, viewing distance, document type and printing process.

Does changing DPI increase image quality?

Changing a DPI value by itself does not create additional image detail. If the pixel dimensions remain unchanged, changing the intended print resolution changes the calculated physical print size rather than creating new pixels.

Image DPI Calculator FAQ

How do I calculate DPI from pixels?

DPI can be calculated when you know the pixel dimension and the corresponding physical print dimension. DPI is approximately equal to pixels divided by inches.

How many pixels is 300 DPI?

There is no single pixel count for 300 DPI. The required pixels depend on the physical print dimensions. For example, one inch at 300 DPI corresponds to 300 pixels.

Can I resize an image to 300 DPI?

Yes. You can use the target print dimensions and 300 DPI to calculate the required pixel dimensions, then resize the image to those dimensions.

Does this tool upload my image?

Image processing in this page is performed locally using your browser's canvas functionality. The page does not require an image-upload server for the calculations and resizing performed by this tool.

Can I use JPG, PNG and WebP?

Yes. The tool accepts JPG, JPEG, PNG and WebP images and can export the processed image in JPG, PNG or WebP format.
